Conference Fringe: INCLUDE presented by Making Music

Event date

Starts: Monday, 14 October, 2024 - 19:00
Ends: Monday, 14 October, 2024 - 20:00

Event description

Join Chief Executive of Making Music, Barbara Eifler and Inclusion Focus Programme Manager Elizabeth Palmer to explore access and inclusion from the perspective of recruiting and retaining players in your band. Using their approach to barriers, they unpack how you can start identifying and dismantling these - even as time-poor volunteers!

To illustrate the journeys groups go on, Making Music will also delve into the INCLUDE programme which is working intensively over two years with four groups to understand how to help them open up their activity to a wider range of participants.

Brass Bands England membership automatically entitles bands to Making Music membership which you can activate at this link

Meet your hosts

Barbara Eifler is the Chief Executive of Making Music, the UK association for leisure-time music. Its 4,000 members (vocal and instrumental groups) comprise around 220,000 hobby musicians. Barbara played the piano as a child and started on cornet 6 years ago. She loves being part of the Crystal Palace Band(s) on 3rd, 2nd or whatever cornet part they’ll let her play.

Elizabeth Palmer is the Inclusion Focus Programme Manager for Making Music and manages their INCLUDE programme. She plays the flute (and occasionally piccolo!) with the Yorkshire WInd Orchestra and feels very lucky to live in an area with such a rich history of brass bands.

This session will use the Zoom Webinar format, with Q&A opportunities throughout the session.

This webinar is free to BBE members or ticket-holders for The Brass Band Conference 2024, and £10 for non-members Please read our cancellation policy here.
